This book offers to English teachers, and college students of English T education who are naturally prospective English teachers, or anyone interested in English learning assessment some functional and practical ideas on what, why, and how to assess students' learning of English in the classroom context, including possible conducts of researching English leaning outcome utilizing assessment instruments. For teachers in particular, the materials prepared in this book provide them with sources essential for redefining the meaning of testing in the context of conducting authentic assessment. This is considered crucial as a step for teachers to carry out their professional expertise to make their teaching have substantial and functional impacts on creating students to be autonomous, effective, and efficient learners as the outcome of their instructional delivery in the classroom within which authentic assessment is more appropriately aligned.

In the era of authentic assessment and competence-based learning, the scope of testing practices needs to be systematically broadened to reach areas not just matters related to tests but also non-tests as there is a compelling demand to assess students' competences more holistically, embracing not just cognitive, but also affective and psycho-motoric areas as well. In addition, the role and the position of authentic assessment need to be proportionally understood by teachers and students alike in the context of teaching-learning activities. Assessing students' learning of English is not merely a matter of 'judging their level of learning outcomes. It goes beyond this point by being like in the job of a physician: diagnosing students' both learning strengths and weaknesses, the results of which will be an important basis for teachers on which to provide suitable strategies for enhancement of students' learning activities in the classroom. Authentic assessment is then inevitably aligned to instruction.

This book is an answer to the need of a learning resource which is based on two sides: practical experiences and theoretical insights in developing assessment instruments and conducting English learning assessment. This book provides a functional link between theory and practice which is down-to-earth that will enhance students' learning of topics in the area of English learning assessment.
